NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT ACT REGULATION 34 AUDITS

The Petroleum Oil and Gas Corporation of South Africa (Pty) Ltd (hereafter referred to as PetroSA) holds Exploration Rights over offshore exploration Block 2C (~180km west of Port Nolloth) and Block 3A/4A (inshore along the coast between Saldanha and Strandfontein), Block 9 (~30km south of Mossel Bay) and Block 11A (~50km south of Plettenberg Bay) off the coast of South Africa. Regulation 34 of the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations (GNR982) (EIA Regulations) promulgated under the National Environmental Management Act (Act 107 of 1998- NEMA) requires PetroSA to ensure that compliance with the Environmental Authorisation (EA) and approved Environmental Management Programme (EMPr) is independently audited. Environmental Impact Management Services (Pty) Ltd (EIMS), has completed the Regulation 34 compliance audit and has made recommendations to amend the EMPr to rectify the identified shortcomings.

The Environmental Audit Report recommendations and the amended EMPr are herewith available for public review and comment, as per Regulation 34(5) of the EIA Regulations.

Queries or comments on the documentation can be directed to EIMS at the details provided below. by no later than the 1st September 2025.  The comments received as a result of the public participation process will be submitted to the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR- the Competent Authority), together with the audit report and the amended EMPr for consideration and approval.

All potential I&APs are also requested to register with EIMS by the specified due date. Within 7 days of submitting the environmental Audit Report to the Competent Authority, EIMS will notify all registered I&APs and make the report available.
